“I just wanted to let you know how very happy my husband and I were with the experience our son had at the Marsh. I was really impressed with the chiefs and how much they loved working and playing with the kids. Our son is usually shy and complains about going anywhere!! He really wanted to go to camp and even made a friend. The activities were perfect for his age group and I’m so excited for him to continue going to the Marsh each summer! Thanks again for making his 2 weeks at camp so memorable.” Camper parent 2013

“This was the most awesome experience for my 6 & 4 year old sons. There just aren’t any other “camps” like this in our area, especially full day for 4 year olds! My 4 year old spoke about Jesus and all of the activities each night. When the week was over, they both begged me to go back. We had been granted a scholarship to attend this week… and what a beautiful blessing it turned out to be! Thank you so much for the wonderful experience!”

“I learned that nothing is impossible with Jesus.” Dane – age 9

The Marsh, and how Nyair has loved it, has exceeded my expectations! I felt from the first minute we arrived that he was in great hands. The nature environment is perfect for him. Swimming is awesome. He can articulate stories about Jesus and his prayers are now spontaneous and thoughtful. I would recommend the camp to all families, but as a foster/adoptive parent I would add how the overall camp environment was so wonderful and a good fit for children who may need extra nurturing!” Camper parent 2013

“My daughter loves going to The Marsh. She gets to interact with kids her age that she does not see in her school and do fun things with them.” Camper parent

“I learned that God is the ultimate super hero. I learned to love God and respect him.” Sarah – 10

“Cali continues to tell me how much fun she had and how she would love to come back next year! She is still singing the songs she learned even after several weeks. It was a perfect way for her to start her summer.” Camper parent

Counselor In Training Program at The Marsh

July 6 – July 24, 2015

The purpose of the Counselor In Training Program at The Marsh is to offer boys and girls who are 15 years old and/or entering 10th grade the opportunity to grow and be challenged as they work, play, and minister to the campers of The Marsh. There will be time set aside for CITs to be involved in personal spiritual growth through Bible study and scripture memorization, as well as opportunities to develop their abilities in working with children in a Christian day camp environment.

By completing and returning the Counselor In Training Application, you are not only showing an interest in becoming a Marsh CIT, but will also be providing evidence of your desire to serve the Lord in life and at camp. (Please note that completion of the CIT program does not guarantee a future staff position at The Marsh.)

If you genuinely desire to be part of what God has in store for The Marsh Day Camp this summer, please complete the CIT application and return it to The Marsh. Please be aware that CIT spaces are limited.

Registration for this program is not available online and can only be completed after your application has been accepted.

“If I could afford it my daughter would stay all summer. She enjoys learning about God (since we pulled back from the church years ago) and I am pleased that she has an interest in growing spiritually and has been reading the Bible since she came home. She enjoys being with other kids and seemed to take to the younger ones and wants to be a counselor in training CIT next year! Thank you for taking such care to nurture parts of my child’s life I feel I have avoided.” Camper parent

Meet the Chiefs!

The Marsh strives to hire young men and women who have the skills and desire to work with children. These are individuals who want to see kids have fun, acquire new skills, and learn and grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. All of our staff take part in an intensive week long training program that includes certification in CPR and First Aid.

Chief Jenny Welte – Director of The Marsh

I am so excited to be gearing up for our 14th summer at The Marsh! I started working at Sandy Cove’s children’s camps in 1988 at Camp Sandy Hill, then Camp Sandy Cove in the Poconos, Hill Top Ranch, Camp Sandy Cove in West Virginia (in the off season) and I was the founding director of The Marsh in 2001. I’ve been married to my husband, Josh (who I met at Sandy Cove), for 10 years and we have two sons, Samuel (7) and Will (4), and a very wiggly Boxer named George. I like sunshine, the beach, splashing in puddles, shopping, reading, taking pictures, and spending time with my family. I love my job as the Director of The Marsh because it means I get to spend my summer hanging out, playing games, and learning about God with some of the coolest, most fun people you’ll ever meet – your kids! Thanks for entrusting them to us summer after summer!

Chief Jacqui Kelly – Program Director/Junior Camp Unit Director

I am VERY excited to be returning for my 7th summer on staff at The Marsh, with my husband, Aaron and son Judah (2 1/2). I’m from Australia and love sunshine, shopping, the outdoors, creativity, organizing, American chewy choc-chip cookies, Cadbury chocolate and GOOD coffee. I’ve been employed as the Children’s Ministry Director at New Horizons Church (Melbourne, Aus) since 2009, and have 15+ years of experience leading kids in ministry settings. I love developing spaces and activities that combine teaching, creativity and fun! I have a passion to see young people enjoy life whilst exploring, leading, developing skills & gifts, and ultimately realizing their full potential in God. Camp enables this to happen every single week!! I can’t wait to meet some great “Marshians” this summer and to work alongside some Chiefs who I first met as campers 10 years ago!

Chief Aaron Kelly – Head Counselor

Chief Aaron is the husband of Chief Jacqui and dad to Judah. He is a Pastor in Australia and is passionate about Jesus and people. Aaron loves a nice tasting coffee, cheese, ice cream and Rita’s. He is deadly scared of spiders and has a very weak stomach! The best thing about the Marsh for Aaron is cookout, Silly Sally and the birdie song. He is REALLY looking forward to spending time with you this summer at The Marsh.

Chief Rachel Little – Senior Camp Unit Director

Hello! I am from Sydney Australia, where I work as a high school teacher (Social Studies). I love my job as I get to spend my days working with teenagers to help them reach their potential. I have over ten years of youth leadership and ministry experience. I have led youth groups, organized and managed weekend youth camps, led Bible studies and mentored other youth leaders. In my free time I enjoy getting outdoors, playing netball (similar to basketball), and catching up with friends. In 2009 I experienced my first American summer camp at Camp Sandy Cove in West Virginia. I loved it and can’t wait to experience yet another amazing summer at The Marsh. I look forward to exploring God’s Word and what it means to be in a relationship with him, as well as having a whole lot of fun!

Chief Abigail Roberts – KinderCamp Unit Director

Hello! I am a junior at Baptist Bible College, and am majoring in early childhood education. I am so excited to be working at The Marsh for the first time this summer, and can’t wait for it to start! I love working with kids, being around people, being outside, and having fun! I’ve volunteered in several VBS’ with my church, took a trip to Arizona to be a counselor at a camp, and had the opportunity last semester to teach in a classroom for the first time! I’m very excited for the new experience that I will gain form this summer, and I am so excited to get started!

Chief Katie Barbor – Activities Specialist

Hello! And welcome back to any former Marshians. I have worked at the Marsh now for 3 years, but have called it my summer home since about age 12! I live nearby – calling Elkton my hometown. I attend school at the University of Maryland while I wait for summer to come back around. I study Aerospace Engineering, but if there was a degree for Camp Counselor, I would switch. My pastimes include Ice Hockey, boating, reading and hiking! I love the Marsh because I have met my best friends here as a camper, and was able to grow up with them in my faith. A few of them I even get to work with. And now I am able to watch a new generation of campers growing, and making memories that I know from personal experience will last them a lifetime!

Chief Khirah Jackson – Counselor

Hi! I am very excited about my fourth year being a chief at The Marsh! I am 20 years young and I am a sophomore at Morgan State University. My major is nursing and I plan to become a pediatric nurse practitioner. I also hope to own orphanages worldwide one day. My favorite things are God, family, best friends, babies, animals, cake batter ice cream, Disney movies, and anything cuddly. I go to church at Griffiths AUMP church where I am involved in youth ministry. I travel to Jamaica twice a year and plan to start a ministry there sharing my love of God.

Chief Laura Nolan – Counselor

Hello! My name is Laura Nolan and this is my second summer at the Marsh. I love the Marsh! I am a senior at Liberty University studying special education. I enjoy reading, going to the beach, being outside, and hanging out with family and friends. I am looking forward to working with your kids this summer!

Chief Ben & Chief Hayley Young – Counselors

G’day! We are newlyweds from Melbourne, Australia and we are so excited to be spending the summer at The Marsh! We love traveling, good coffee, photography, The Lord, our family and friends and much more. Ben is a returning chief from 2009 and it will be Hayley’s first year as an official chief (but she volunteered at The Marsh in 2009, as well!). We have both been involved for many years in youth and children’s ministry and are looking forward to having a lot of fun with the young people at The Marsh.

Chief Mikala Koenig – Counselor

Chief Mikala is returning for her fourth summer on staff – but has been a camper since she was just 5 years old! She is graduating from high school this year and will head back east from Colorado to be with us at The Marsh in June. Chief Mikala is known for her bad British accent, her song mashing abilities, and her mad chief-ing skills.

Chief Jacob Austin- Counselor

Chief Jacob is coming back to The Marsh for his third summer as a counselor, and was a camper at The Marsh since we opened in 2001! He is from Elkton, Maryland, and is finishing his freshman year of college at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee.

Chief PJ Lopez – Counselor

Hey there my name is Peter Jacob, but I go by PJ. This will be my first year at the Marsh Day Camp and I am really looking forward to it. I’m originally from Boston, Massachusetts but have lived in Palm Bay, Florida for the last 3 years. I’m a junior at Southeastern University and I major in communications with a minor in coaching. I’m excited to get to know you guys and learn more about one another. God bless!

Chief Christian Lipscomb – Counselor

Hey guys! My name is Christian Lipscomb, I am 19 years old and it’s my first year as counselor here at the marsh! I must say I’m very excited to get started and meet everyone, can’t wait for camp to start, see y’all soon!

Madeline Litwin – Junior Counselor

Hello! My name is Madeline Litwin. I am 16 years old and a senior at Perryville High School. This will be my first year as a chief at The Marsh, but I have been coming here since I was 5 years old! I love it! This place is like my second home! The Marsh has helped me strengthen my relationship with God through all of the 11 years I have been here! I am so glad I will have the opportunity to continue strengthening my relationship with Him as a chief this summer! In my free time, I play soccer and do track. I also love volunteering at the VA and swimming with my friends. I am very excited to be a part of the Marsh family this summer!

“I learned that nothing is impossible with Jesus.” Dane – age 9

“I know the kids are growing in their spiritual growth because they love to recite their Bible verses and they are singing and downloading the songs they are learning during the day at camp.” Camper parent 2013
