Stephen J. Weaver – President/CEO

Stephen has a long history with Sandy Cove, dating back to his childhood where his walk with Jesus Christ began through the children’s camping ministry of Sandy Cove, at Camp Sandy Hill. Stephen served on summer staff at Sandy Cove during his teenage years. He has held the position of Program Director since 2008 and in 2014 was names as Sandy Cove’s 6th President/CEO.

Stephen’s long involvement with the ministry has instilled in him a deep appreciation and love for the rich legacy of Sandy Cove Ministries. He has a firmly rooted passion for Sandy Cove’s mission of helping people connect with God and each other in order to be transformed into the image of Christ through His Word, His creation and community.

Todd Rivetti, former Chairman of the Board, stated, “We are excited to have Stephen as Sandy Cove’s President. Stephen has a heart for enabling God’s work in the lives of people. His relational leadership style is contagious. Stephen’s rich relationships with Sandy Cove’s staff, guests and speakers will significantly enhance his start as President. Stephen and his wife, Beth, live in North East, Maryland with their son, Brock. They are active at Way of Life Community Church in Rising Sun, MD where Stephen serves on the worship team and preaches on occasion.

Kevin Bitler – Director of Operations

Kevin BitlerKevin has been working at Sandy Cove for more than 25 years. He has worked in capacities from dishwasher to director and everything in between. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Liberty University in 1997. Outside of work, Kevin is active at Stones Throw Church, serving in their children’s ministries. He also enjoys gardening, woodworking, and outdoor sports. Kevin has a daughter and a son, Ciara and Jackson.

Robert Carey – Director of Human Resources

Robb and Norma CareyRobb joined the Sandy Cove team as Director of Human Resources. He comes to us with a degree in Economics from the University of Delaware and a Juris Doctor degree from Widener University School of Law. He most recently was the COO for a marina and waterfront investment partnership. Robb lives in the Elk Neck area with his wife, Norma, and their dog, Jack. Together they have six children, five grandchildren, and counting. They are involved in various ministries at Glorious Presence Church in Elkton. They are avid snow skiers and enjoy outdoor activities. Robb’s interests also include martial arts, and he is currently training toward his third degree black belt.

Tim Nielsen – Director of Camp Sandy Cove

Tim NielsenTim has been the director of Camp Sandy Cove since 1989. He has a Master’s Degree in Christian Education from Columbia International University. Tim is the President of the Keystone Regional Council of Leaders of the American Camp Association (ACA). Tim has also helped to start and operate camps in Russia and Australia. Tim’s wife, Adina, works with him at camp and is in charge of the office and registration. Tim and Adina have two daughters.

Nate Ransil – Director of Program Ministries

Nate RansilNate joined the Program department at Sandy Cove in 2003, and transitioned to director of that team in 2014. Nate graduated from Houghton College with a double major in Communication and Outdoor Recreation (yes, it is a thing) and got to know his wife Evelyn while co-leading backpacking trips for at-risk youth. Hopefully not as at-risk are their two sons, Caleb and TJ, who have spent all their summers at Sandy Cove, Camp Sandy Cove, and The MARSH! Nate enjoys being outside, being inside, being handy, the beach, snowboarding, roller coasters, training aardvarks, body building, contributing to quantum theory, and making up fanciful, if not entirely accurate, biographical details.

Vonnie Stemen – Director of Business Services

Vonnie has twenty-five years of for-profit and non-profit financial experience prior to joining the Sandy Cove team in 2008. She has an accounting degree from Ohio Northern University, a CPA license and is a member of the AICPA. Before coming to Sandy Cove Ministries, she was the Director of Accounting for Hupp Aerospace/Defense in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Vonnie’s husband John also serves on the Sandy Cove team. They are blessed with two grown daughters, Adel and Cori.
