    Amy's Story

"My husband Kevin battled lifetime depression due, in part, to growing up in a home with two alcoholic parents. A skilled carpenter, his work dried up literally overnight following the 2008 recession. His darkness and isolation grew in intensity as our finances spun out of control and we came close to losing everything. He took his life on July 8, 2013. Our sons, Jonathan and James, were 17 and 15 at the time."

With a love for children, Amy has worked as a teacher, a classroom aide, and an administrative assistant in schools and nonprofits.  Last year, at age 65, she took a job as a paraeducator in special ed/autism, grades 2 and 3, in the public school system. She says it is the toughest job she has ever had, but it is also extremely rewarding.  Her best job, however, has been being a mom to Jonathan and James.
