College Credits for Summer Staff
The ability to offer these college credits to our staff has already been a blessing to Camp Sandy Cove. I was speaking to Justin, one of our summer staff from 2007, about returning to camp for the summer of 2008. He said that he would really love to be at camp, but he needed to take some classes in the summer in order to graduate on time. I told him about the courses that we are offering at camp and he checked with his advisor. To make a long story short – Justin is now able to join us at camp because he is able to satisfy his academic need while serving the Lord in the ministry that he enjoys! Justin is just one of our staff who will be gaining some college credit while at camp this summer. |
The courses are designed to enhance the student's learning in ministry and leadership while facilitating quick integration of that learning into the very real ministry environment of counseling at camp. Most of your coursework will be completed just by going through counselor training and through your role as a counselor this summer. Camp is the classroom! The only outside requirement will be a couple of online assignments and submitting a journal entry online each week.
The Courses
Counseling in Active Learning Environments (3 credits)This course is designed to help students understand principles and acquire competencies necessary to move participants towards growth in the context of short-term impact ministry environments such as retreats, resident camps, mission trips, and wilderness trips. Key subjects include group dynamics, relationship building, camper discipline, facilitation, framing, debriefing, processing, and Bible study.
Learning Activities, Games & Events (3 credits)
Students will be introduced to skills and competencies necessary for planning and leading learning activities that have a purpose. Students will learn how to "Introduce Truth, Illustrate Truth, or Illuminate a Lack of Truth" through the use of and modification of known activities or by introducing new activities, games, and initiatives.
The Credit
Baptist Bible College is fully accredited by the Middlestates Association of Colleges and Schools. That means these courses WILL transfer to any college or university in the USA. It will be up to students to determine with their school whether the credits will transfer into their degree program or as general electives. In many cases, these credits meet internship requirements that are inherent in the student's degree program. To apply please click here.
