Summertime at Sandy Cove is the perfect setting for Moms and their Teen Daughters to get away from it all and have some fun together! This relationship is one that can be life-defining— with the capacity to bring great joy and companionship for the years to come. But maybe right now you are in need of someone to guide you through uncharted waters. Dr. Linda Mintle has the professional expertise as well as the life experience to lead the way.

 Dr. Linda Mintle
Linda Mintle

Based on her latest book, I Love My Mother But... (Harvest House, January 2011), relationship expert Dr. Linda Mintle tackles one of the most powerful bonds of all, mothers and daughters. Every daughter desires to grow into her unique self, and every mom wants to guide her to that end. The journey is full of challenges, but rewarding and even fun. Blending her training as a licensed marital and family therapist with her longstanding Christian faith, Dr. Linda will guide us to honor our mothers and grow our daughters.
Dr. Linda is a best-selling author, winner of the Mom’s Choice Award, a national news consultant and blogger, and hosts her own website. Her academic appointment at Eastern Virginia Medical School keeps her abreast of current research in her areas of expertise. Her media experience includes seven years as the resident expert for ABC Family’s Living the Life television show and regular appearances on network television and radio. Her current assignment as a national news consultant allows her to comment on mental health issues in the news. As a licensed marriage and family therapist and licensed clinical social worker, she brings 25 years of clinical experience to everyday living.
It is often said that being with Dr. Linda is like having coffee with a friend. She makes the complicated issues of relationships and mental health easy to understand and applicable to everyday living. The ease she has with people, coupled with her clinical training and experience makes her a sought after speaker on college campuses, at conferences and special events. Whether she is doing a TV skit with Tim Conway or discussing teen violence with Queen Latifa, Dr. Linda will entertain, educate and help you with Real Answers to Real Life.
Dr. Linda’s daughter, Katie, will be joining her for this special weekend and leading the girls in learning a fun dance routine.

Sessions

Session 1: Survivor—Sandy Cove
Ok, so we are not exactly on an island but close enough! The great escape begins with teambuilding fun and ways to survive your mother-daughter relationship.

Session 2: My Space
The key to every mother-daughter relationship is to be separate but attached. How do you work on becoming your own person and yet, have a strong relationship. This is your developmental challenge. Do you have too much closeness or not enough connection?

Session 3: So We Think You Can Dance
All relationships have a familiar dance that two people learn to do together. What is yours with your mom/daughter? Can you change the dance? We’ll learn to identify our step in the relationship dance and then have some fun really dancing! Katie will lead the teens in hip hop and moms will line dance their way to weight loss!

Session 4: Strengthening the Mother-Daughter Bond
We’ll conclude our sessions with ways to have fun together, build memories, and work together emotionally and spiritually. The goal is to strengthen the bond and make this relationship one that will be enjoyed for years.
