Summer Together 2008 at Sandy Cove Ministries

The mission of the Sandy Cove Family Homeschool Conference is to provide biblical teaching, encouragement, fellowship and spiritual retreat for Christian homeschoolers.

Please note: the Talent Show, a poplar element of the annual Sandy Cove Home School Week, has been postponed for the 2008 event. With significant changes in the 2008 program schedule, including the addition of the Thursday night concert with Michael Card, plans are being considered to re-design the Talent Show program to better showcase talent, skills and proficiencies of homeschoolers in attendance. Be watching for the return of the Talent Show (or its equivalent) in 2009. Thank you for your understanding!

A Vacation Just for Homeschool Families!

Sandy Cove Homeschool Week is like a family reunion.

Are you looking for a family vacation where…
  • You are surrounded by 450 fellow homeschoolers
  • You don’t have to apologize for having more than 2 kids
  • You form friendships with other Christians that last beyond your week together
  • You don’t worry who your children are hanging out with
  • You know your kids are having fun flying down the 400 foot zip line, scaling the 30 foot climbing wall, playing at the marina to name just a few of the 101 activities they can choose from
  • You enjoy awesome praise and worship, practical teaching and helpful seminars
  • You stay in comfortable lodging
  • You get away from the routine of teaching, cooking, cleaning, planning and entertaining the kids
  • You discover mutual encouragement – not the pressure of curriculum vendors
  • You head home refreshed, hopeful and full of new e-mails from friends who understand you…

Summer Together Week 1: Homeschool Week

Week 1: June 29-July 4, 2008

With Rev. Todd Wilson, speaker

Todd Wilson TODD WILSON, author of Help! I'm Married to a Homeschooling Mom and The Official Book of Homeschooling Cartoons, is a dad, writer, conference speaker, and former pastor. Todd's humor and gut-honest realness have made him a favorite speaker at homeschool conventions across the country and a recent guest on Focus on the Family.

As founder of Familyman Ministries, his passion and mission are to remind dads and moms of what's most important through The Familyman Weekly (a weekly e-mail sent to thousands of dads), seminars, and books that encourage parents.

His articles have appeared in various magazines, including Christian Parenting Today, Men of Integrity, and Stand Firm. Christianity Today also posts his weekly column (The Familyman Weekly) on their website.

Todd and his wife Debbie, along with their seven children spend several months of the year traveling the country encouraging moms and dads. His humor, realness, and straight talk to men (and women) have become his trademark.

Michael Card, musician

Michael CardMICHAEL CARD is a singer, songwriter and author whose goal in life is to simply, and quietly teach the Bible. Ironically, his fame has spread, winning multiple Dove Awards and Gold Medallion Book Awards.

Although music provided him the opportunity to share insights gained through extensive research, writing songs alone limited what he felt called to share. And so he fell, quite naturally, into the field of book writing where he has garnered numerous awards. As Card continued on his quest to teach the Bible, he was encouraged to follow his dream of hosting a radio program entitled Joy in the Journey. Today it continues as In the Studio with Michael Card and is broadcast on the Moody Radio Network. Michael has continued his journey and now speaks at Bible conferences across the United States.

LISTEN
"Immanuel"

In everything he does, Card seeks to encourage his audience to join him in his own journey to know and be known by God by asking questions and entering into meaningful discussion with one another. Card's vision is to edify the body of Christ around the world by sharing experiences and resources in the context of community in order to help facilitate the growth of smaller and more intimate communities. Whether it's through his writing, concerts, teaching or his radio program, the core of what binds these seemingly diverse endeavors together is biblical community. It is at the heart of everything Michael Card does.

Fun Together!

Fun Together!

There are so many activities for a family at Sandy Cove, it’s like a 3-ring circus! The first ring is full of water with the wavecutter, waterskiing, canoes, kayaks, boat rides, and of course splashing and swimming in one of our three pools…

Sports and games fill up another ring with volleyball, basketball, Frisbee golf, tennis, mini golf, shuffleboard, ping pong, soccer, and more… Then another ring has crafts, family shows, the ‘Night to Forget,’ rocket making and Dive In movies…

Plus the rock wall, the big swing and the zip lines in the "what was I thinking?" ring!

And what about archery, the moonbounce, pony rides, and s’mores?

OK, so it’s more than three rings…but here’s the thing: all the clowning around we do here will pull your family closer together, and make great memories… as well as stronger strong men, more balanced girls, and tamer lions…

…so run away from home and join our circus!
See ya’ this summer at Sandy Cove!

Free time is fun time at Sandy Cove… not ONLY for the exercise, or to cool off, or to experience an adrenaline rush or to get sore muscles and feel like you’ve accomplished something…

When we play together, we build bonds, strengthen relationships and make memories, and that’s what it’s all about!

Activity QuikTiks!

The newly improved QuikTik system allows you to choose the crazy and popular activities you want to try most (like the big swing and the wavecutter) by giving you a ticket for a certain time block to hold your “spot” so you do not have to wait in line. This summer we want to have your QuikTiks waiting for you when you arrive. That way you can spend your first night concentrating on important things like choosing your ice cream flavor and beating your son at ping pong…. So, register for 2008 Summer Together and check back here soon for more details on QuikTiks!

ClubCove and CrossWalk

It's great to have family fun time, but what about those times when you're being ministered to in seminars and by our guest speakers? During our five-night weeks, each morning and evening while moms and dads are listening to speakers or finding some quiet time together, kids will have an exciting opportunity to spend time with kids their own age. Your family will gather together again for meals and afternoon fun! Here’s what your kids will do:

ClubCove offers programs for infants through elementary school aged children, designed to provide a safe haven where kids can learn godly principles and take part in supervised recreation -- while parents enjoy quiet, uninterrupted times of worship and fellowship. They make crafts, hear Bible stories, have lots of fun, and if they’re young enough, get to ride around the grounds in cool wagons!

And for the older youth, CrossWalk: Teenagers do things their way… music, friends, youth speakers, Bible study and of course lots of time for big kid games and activities!

Parents, teens and children send us the same message: they LOVE Sandy Cove! This year's program is sure to please.

Secluded on the shore of the great Chesapeake Bay, Sandy Cove is the perfect setting for exploring the woodlands and wetlands of His Creation.

What ages are included?

ClubCove's programs for infants through elementary school aged children are designed to provide a safe haven where kids can learn godly principles and take part in supervised recreation -- while parents enjoy quiet, uninterrupted times of worship and fellowship.

CrossWalk for teens! Includes separate junior and senior high Bible studies and a combined evening rally in the chapel enjoying contemporary worship and motivational speakers.

What activities are available?

Activities are planned for every age group, each with its own Bible study. The hours are filled with swimming, boat rides, crafts, games, sports, music, and new friends! Then families rejoin for meal times and afternoon activities of your choice.

Especially at ClubCove. You’ll be divided into age-appropriate groups to fully enjoy all that Sandy Cove has to offer. We’re planning a week you won’t forget including crafts, games, water activities, boat rides, music, mini-golf, playground... and lots more! And be prepared to have "Fun With Fundamentals" during Bible study time.

Especially for teens: CrossWalk! This high energy program has been designed to meet the needs of today’s youth. By the end of the week, you’ll be walking out of this world! Our theme verse is... "Then Jesus said to his disciples: If any of you want to be my followers, you must forget about yourself. You must take up your cross and follow me." Matthew 16:24
  • Intentional Bible study designed to help you grow as a disciple of Christ – separate junior and senior high studies
  • Evening rally in the chapel with all youth together including contemporary worship and motivational speakers
  • Summer ministry teams from Christian colleges across the northeast and mid-Atlantic regions doing drama, music and more
  • Special activities planned especially for the discriminating teenager

About the Staff

For the safety of your children a background check is done on every applicant over the age of 18, which is also required by law. Many of our staff are Elementary and Secondary Education college majors so they already have "hands-on" experience with children and young adults.

The ClubCove director closely works with her staff. There are always 2 staff working together with groups of children, to ensure no child is left alone with a single staff member. If you have concerns, please feel free to contact us at info@sandycove.org.

Are there other camping choices for kids?

Yes! Sandy Cove offers two exciting summer options, an overnight camp in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and a day camp offered at Sandy Cove in North East, Maryland.

For boys and girls ages 7 to 15: Camp Sandy Cove in the Blue Ridge Mountains! Campers can choose from a traditional camping experience, a rugged wilderness adventure, or an intense leadership training program. All activities are professionally supervised in a quality Christian environment. You may wish to coordinate your child's week of camp with your own Family Conference Week -- bus transportation from Sandy Cove to the Camp and return is available.
The Marsh
Sandy Cove also offers The Marsh, a day camp offering challenge, excitement, and learning in an environment designed specifically for kids, ages 6-12.
