At the end of a long day, take time to relax and laugh at Sandy Cove! Make it a night out and day off!
Spend the night in the Chesapeake Lodge and relax over breakfast in the Water’s Edge Dining Room. Fellowship with your sisters in Christ… devotions and "girlfriend time" with the Girls’ Night Out special guests… and take some time to connect with God before heading home for the busy weekend!
Donna East is a blonde-haired, blue-eyed All-American girl next door who came straight out of her hometown, Detroit, and hit the New York City comedy scene big. Her material comes straight out of her Midwestern heart. Her life is her comedy source. From her wacky family, her church work, her recent marriage, to surviving career moves... it all factors in.
As a child Donna suffered physical problems requiring braces on her legs and thick bi-focal glasses for a lazy eye. She says, “At five years old, I started school chubby with glasses, freckles, stringy hair and hand-me-down clothes. By age seven, I found out just how cruel kids can be! But at eight years old, I attended a church service and went to the altar to give my heart to Jesus! In that moment, I felt my burdens lift—even at eight! I was free! I felt fresh. My feet were so light that I wanted to fly to heaven and be with Jesus! I was so happy! Even as a young girl, I heard God say to me, ‘I love you. You are special and I have a plan for your life.’ I found real hope and knew Jesus was my true source of healing and happiness.”
Years later, after a traumatic experience on 9/11 in New York City, Donna suffered two grand mal seizures. With stitches in her tongue, memory loss, depression and an epilepsy diagnosis, she wasn’t sure she’d be able to make people laugh again. She wasn’t sure SHE would be able to laugh again! But God spoke to her again and said, “Search my Word!” and gave her verse after verse about joy, laughter and gladness. He showed her once again through His Word that He is hope, healing and happiness.
Now Donna does clean comedy all over the world! She recently appeared on an episode of the national television comedy show, "Bananas," which aired in 70 million homes in the US and 40 million in Europe and Australia. She’s also performed three tours in nine countries for our troops.
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear Donna East and laugh with your friends at Sandy Cove! If you're looking for good clean fun, then forget about asking directions... You are HERE!
Anita Gutschick is an experienced stage actress who through God’s calling has devoted her time and talents to the one-woman program Women of the Bible.
Women of the Bible is a dramatic presentation told through the diverse voices of women from the Old and New Testaments. Anita portrays these fascinating women in a way that makes their stories relevant to today’s audiences. She recounts their family sagas, shares their hopes and fears, and reveals how their faith in God – or their lack of faith – impacted their lives, as well as the lives of others. Anita concludes the program with her engaging and inspirational personal testimony.
Anita is a member of the National Speakers Association (NSA), Christians in Theatre Arts (CITA), and the Network of Biblical Storytellers (NOBS). Women of the Bible has led the interdenominational worship service at the NSA Eastern Workshop, and was performed at a CITA Regional Conference. Anita has performed at hundreds of retreats, conferences, and programs for various denominations all across the country. Recently, Anita was the retreat leader at several regional Salvation Army women’s retreats and a forum presenter at the 2009 Presbyterian Women’s Gathering.
Active in her church, Anita has served as a deacon, is trained as a Stephen Minister, and has participated in Bible Study Fellowship. In 2004 she took a Walk to Emmaus – De Colores!
Anita developed Women of the Bible in 1995 and it has become her most passionate vocation. God’s grace has allowed her to share the messages of these biblical women with tens of thousands of men, women and children across the United States.
Raised in church all her life, she never recalls anyone telling her about the salvation message until she was a young adult. God uses her character, Maybell, to touch hearts with the gift of laughter. She says things that Peggy would like to say, but sometimes doesn't for fear of looking foolish. Maybell doesn't care if she looks foolish. She loves people. Everyone is her friend. She accepts people for who they are, and doesn't judge anyone. As you can see, we all could learn a lot from her.
Music and Message by Susan Piper
God has been working on Susan a long time! She began performing as a child, in order to win love in a very sad home. As a teenager, she was singing in bars, asking the bartenders to spike her drinks and having relationships with men. Depression, anorexia, and a breakdown followed. She left home the minute she could and was married at eighteen. (And quickly divorced.) Years of therapy made Susan strong enough to stumble into a job in a nursing home, a job she had no training or education for, a job that brought her out of herself and showed her that she had the capacity to love. The job was God's lifeline. Susan came to know Jesus in 2000 and has never been happier! She never imagined life could be so rich, that the loneliness could actually go away and that she could sleep at night without drinking. Her latest album, “Living Things” was just released in 2009.
